R-Value of EPS Insulation – The R-value of 1.5 lb density Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) insulation is 18.20 for 4 in thick, 22.75 for 5 in thick, and 27.30 for 6 in thick. The R-value of EPS insulation varies depending on its density, but typically ranges from R-3.9 to R-4.4 per inch. A higher R-value means the insulation is better at trapping conditioned air, such as cool air in the summer or heat in the winter. It’s not about how much heat the insulation retains, but how slowly it allows heat to pass through it.
