Can TPO be installed over an existing roof system?
Yes, TPO (Thermoplastic Olefin) roofing can be installed over an existing roof system in some cases. However, there are several critical factors that need to be considered before making this decision.
First and foremost, the existing roof must be structurally sound and able to support the weight of the new TPO roof system. This means that any moisture or damage in the existing roof must be addressed before installation to prevent issues with the new roof.
SPC will need to do a thorough examination of the existing roof system before making a recommendation that we can stand behind. For example, if the current roof system is a built-up roof system or another single ply membrane such as PVC or EPDM, we might require the installation of an insulation board before applying the TPO membrane.
With TPO recovery you also get higher wind resistance than Mod bit, higher reflectivity which increases energy efficiency and gets the added benefit of easy repairability for the future. Because TPO is thermal plastic, it is very easy to clean and repair any punctures from wind blown debris or fallen tree limbs. That sort of peace of mind is priceless when it comes to protecting your commercial property. On top of all these benefits, by choosing SPC and our custom TPO overlay you get a 10-30 year industry leading No Dollar Limit Warranty (NDL).
What is a No Dollar Limit Warranty? (NDL)
Commercial roof replacements can be a large investment for any owner, so it is critical to understand the warranty system in place, and what may be right for your property. Bullseye gun was able to get a 20 year NDL warranty… But what does that mean?
A No Dollar Limit Warranty is the manufacturer’s top notch, top of the line warranty plan provided directly to you as the owner of the commercial space. This is the best warranty you can purchase above and beyond your commercial roof replacement itself, giving you peace of mind knowing you are covered for years to come. An NDL cover’s not only the cost of the material, but also the labor involved in the event of a warranty claim on your new roof. Ranging between 10 to 30 years, a 20 year NDL is the most commonly chosen full-system warranty.
As a certified contractor, and trained installer we design and spec systems out to withstand the elements to maintain the integrity of the roof for the next 20+ years.
