Why Metal retrofit is the solution for your metal roof

Metal roofs can be costly to replace once the metal begins to deteriorate and leak. One cost effective solution is with a TPO metal retrofit system.

Mule-Hide Products TPO Membrane can be installed over existing standing seam metal roofing to offer long-lasting protection while increasing the energy efficiency of the building.

Features & Benefits

• Increased building comfort through added insulating value of lightweight flute
filler, new insulation and high reflective membrane

• Strong fastening methods to structural purlins

• Superior watertight heat-welded seams

Installing a TPO Metal Retrofit System

1. Existing standing seam metal roof.

2. Flute fill insulation. Fills in the space between the standing seams of the metal roof panels, either with Poly ISO or EPS.

3. Additional insulation to create a flat surface for the membrane and increase
the “R” value.

4. TPO membrane can be mechanically attached (using fasteners and plates),
induction welded, fully-adhered (using TPO Bonding Adhesive or AeroWeb)
or self-adhered.

5. TPO membrane is heat-welded together using robotic hot air welder.

R-Value of EPS Insulation –

The R-value of 1.5 lb density Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) insulation is 18.20 for 4 in thick, 22.75 for 5 in thick, and 27.30 for 6 in thick. The R-value of EPS insulation varies depending on its density, but typically ranges from R-3.9 to R-4.4 per inch. A higher R-value means the insulation is better at trapping conditioned air, such as cool air in the summer or heat in the winter. It’s not about how much heat the insulation retains, but how slowly it allows heat to pass through it.
